does this recent story ‘ indicate ‘ that ebay could shut down?

im in the uk, im an ebay user, when i have the money, which is rare, i find ebay useful for buying rare things, but i just read this story before in yahoo uk news;

eBay ‘owes £51m in taxes’ to UK

eBay pays £1.2m in British taxes on sales of £800m: report

http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/ebay-pays-1-2m-british-174322345.html

so it caused me to be worried would stories like this put sites like ebay in danger of shutting down?

i dont understand the story very well so this is why i feared that, so if anyone can reassure or explain it better to me ?

I don’t think eBay will close down, any more than I don’t think Amazon and all the rest of the tax dodgers will. I use eBay quite a bit though, and when I sell things I get heavily charged by eBay for listing and auction fees, as well as PayPal fees, and we also pay (I think) a Luxumboug tax. Sometimes I lose over 10% of the auction value of the item with their cheeky fees that I’m forced to pay. I’m not very happy about this latest news. Why do the govt allow companies to trade without paying tax? eBay and Amazon have caused untold amounts of shops to close on the high street, and many of those shops WERE paying their taxes as they should have been.

In registering for a trademark, can I choose Section 1(a) if I haven’t officially begun selling my product?

I have created a product that I would like to sell online as well as different retail stores. A few friends and acquaintances of mine have already purchased the product, and I already own the site where I will soon begin selling it online. I have also sold an earlier prototype of the product on ebay using the same name I am trying to trademark, but the logo was different at the time. I usually bring the product with me in case someone likes it and wants to buy one, but I have not done anything concerning sales or revenue taxes yet.

Now I am filling out the forms to register the trademark, and I have come to the page for assigning a file basis. I can choose between Section 1(a), Section 1(b), Section 44(d), and Section 44(e). To avoid filing yet another form in the future, I would rather choose Section 1(a) than 1(b), but I do not know how much proof they will want that I am already using the mark in commerce now. Is my trademark eligible for Section 1(a), or will it be declined if I choose 1(a)?

One other part of the form that I was in doubt about was on the first page that asks for my name and then the entity type. For entity type I can choose individual or sole proprietorship, among others. The business I started which sells the product is a sole proprietorship, but I am an individual, so which should I choose. If I choose sole proprietorship, must I check the option under my name "Doing business as" and write the name of my business?

Thank you for the help!

I need to really caution you that registering a trademark is not as simple as merely filling out a form. If you screw up your trademark registration, you may risk losing rights to your trademark. Once you lose valuable rights to you trademark, you cannot fix it by just filling out another form in the future — those rights may be forever lost. I can’t stress this enough. My advice to you is to hire a trademark attorney to help you through the process. Don’t be penny wise and pound foolish.

If you really want to do this yourself, the first step is to familiarize yourself with the TMEP, which I have linked below. It is the "Bible" of trademark procedure with respect to the USPTO.

That being said, from your limited facts, it does not look like you even meet the requirements for a 1(a) application.

Need help Selling Stuff on short notice?

We are moving out of state in one week, and our house is basically just as full as it was 2 months ago. We have tried to have a "moving sale" (one person showed up after 2 days of selling), advertised my butt off on Craigslist.org, the local paper, ebay, and priced everything uber cheap to sell… but nothing. We have had alot of calls, but of course we wait around and no one ever shows up.

I was thinking of driving to my mothers home 20 miles away tomorrow (Sunday) to try and sell, but I am not prepared, I would have to wake up at 4am to set up, and have heard that Sundays are pretty slow selling days.

At this point I am feeling pretty lost, my condo doesn’t allow moving sales, so I can’t even put up signs, and I don’t know anyone in the area with a yard to do a garage sale there.

Any help on how to sell my stuff would be appreciated!

If all else fails you could gather up all you can’t sell but don’t want and bag it up and donate to the Salvation Army or places that take donations. Get a receipt for it and you can claim that amount on your taxes. You would be surprised how much it adds up and I know a family member that does this each year so basically you still get your money.
