how big of a keyboard should i start with if i want to learn how to play piano?
i want to learn but i dont know if i should start with a keyboard that has 61 keys, or 76 keys, or 88 keys or whichever. i dont really want to get an 88 key keyboard because i dont have that kind of money, as i am only 15, so what should i do?
61 is too short. You can survive with 76, but the prices drop EVERY DAY on keyboards – you shoud be able to pick up an 88 note. FOr a nw one, check out the M-Audio 88 note – it has semi-weighted action ( no electronic keyboard REALLY feels like a real piano) and two pedals. You will need to run it thru headphones, and amp, or even your stereo system. It weighs 17 pounds, and can go anywhere. I got mine from Musicians Friend. We own 5 electronic keyboards, and a Steinway grand piano.
You can always start with a USED keyboard – they are everywhere. Check yard sales, Salvation Army – people often give them away to charities. Check CraigsList, eBay – you should find somehting cheap, easily. Good luck with your keyboard study – PLEASE start with a teacher! Trying to teach yourself is very slow and painful – like trying to drill your own teeth! Even a few, occasional lessons from a REAL TEACHER will make all the difference – you can get good FAST with expert help, or remain frustrated without it. GOOD LUCK!!
