How to use paypal when selling on Ebay?

February 17th, 2013 2 comments

Trying to learn how to start selling on Ebay – I have a paypal buyer account – will it work for selling? Do they charge you any fees?

Yes it works both ways. You can also use it to request money with out selling on eBay and it has a great savings rate if you want to keep your profits in one place. The fee charged depends on the total dollar amount charged including your shipping charges. You are not charged when you use the account to purchase items on eBay. If for any reason you have to refund a buyer you get the fee returned. It also has a great link for shipping with the post office and UPS. You can pay your shipping right out of your Paypal balance. Best of all you can give your packages to your local carrier instead of running to the PO all the time. Good luck.

What are some good alternatives to selling on eBay?

January 22nd, 2013 4 comments

Ebay’s new policy changes have resulted in a huge drop in sales – the biggest I’ve seen in my 10 years of selling on there. Many sellers speak of selling on other sites, but the few that I can find seem to not be worth the time.
What are these sites? Does anyone else sell online?
I sell antique jewelry…

Sales may be down but it could very well be due, in great part, to the economy. This may be especially true if you are selling high-end jewelry. Regardless, people who have been affected by the economy will forgo jewelry to buy necessities.

However, before you jump ship, consider your potential market. How many members does the new auction site have compared to tens of millions of members at ebay? You may be saving money on fees or paying no fees at all but any new auction site will have a small fraction of the members that ebay has. You may sell an item for $10 at another auction site with far, fewer members that would likely sell for substantially more at ebay with its much, much greater membership. This is a classic example of “stepping over a dollar to pick up a penny.”

These smaller auction sites are good for buyers for the same reason that they are bad for sellers:

fewer bidders = less competition = lower closing prices.

These bidders/buyers are smart and have been taking advantage of those sellers who have left ebay.

Ebay is the largest auction site on the web with the most members. There isn’t another auction site that is remotely close, and I do mean remotely close, to having the number of members that ebay has.

Regardless of the fees, I suggest you stick with ebay:

The most members = maximum competition -= higher closing prices

There isn’t another auction site on the web that can hold a candle to ebay and the millions and millions of members it has. Many have tried and many have failed and yet, many are still trying. Ebay has a virtual lock on this business. This is where you want to sell as ebay has the largest potential market. A basic business tenet is ‘The greater the potential market, the greater the potential for maximum profits.’ My advice: Don’t be penny wise and pound-foolish. But the final choice is yours.

Tips to maximize profits:

Do not limit your auctions to one country. SELL WORLDWIDE. The reason is simple. You now have access to the largest market ebay has to offer. Limiting your auctions to only one country also limits your potential market. To maximize profits, sell worldwide. But do say that PayPal is the only form of payment you will accept from overseas bidders

Do not limit your payment options – Offer all of them. Sellers who offer only PayPal or only money orders or money orders and checks are further limiting their potential market and reducing their potential to maximize profits. Some people will not bid on items that do not have PayPal as an option. Then you have a smaller percentage who refuse to use PayPal and prefer to pay by check only or money order only. For checks, the buyer should have at least 25 positive feedbacks and a 100% feedback rating.

However, if you wish to limit sales to only one country, such as the USA, never say NO when you receive an email asking if you would ship to Taiwan, Germany, Australia or wherever. The reason is that you have a ‘FISH ON THE HOOK!’ This person will bid! When he or she does, this may force a previous bidder to enter another, higher bid or force later, first time bidders to come in with higher bids. So always say YES to these emails if you want to maximize your profits. But do say that PayPal is the only form of payment you will accept for these overseas bidders.

Several members above mentioned Craigslist. Keep in mind that Craigslist is basically a classified that limits you to a particular geographic region. This drastically limits your potential market. Ebay reaches tens of millions of people. My point is simple. Ask 100 people to name an auction site. What do you think the answer will be 99 to 100 times, Sell-It-Here or eBay? If you want to reach the most people to maximize your profits, ebay is still the way to go despite the economy. Craigslist, for the most part, is for larger and heavier items that are cumbersome to ship easily like furniture, dumbbell sets, cars, swing sets, etc.

How to conduct a fantasy baseball auction with only 2 people?

October 25th, 2012 1 comment

My friend and I want to play a little fantasy game between us but we need help on how to organize an auction draft. Since we’re just 2 we don’t know how it could work.

If you are doing an auction style draft, you really need more than 2 people. A straight draft style would be better. But if you insist on an auction, I always have everyone involved start with $500 and take turns bringing up players. I always make a rule that the person who brings up the player is required to put at least a dollar on the player if no one wants him and they must add the player to their roster. This way no one tries to bring up nobodies to fill spots on the other person’s roster and get the good players for cheap because no one has a place for them. But with only two people, it would make things interesting… not sure it will really work. And both of you would have All-Star teams. I generally like to have a lot of people playing so that you have to do your homework and you go deep on some teams to try to find hidden talent, but that’s just me.

Record High Gold Prices in India Attracts Investors

Gold prices in India are at record highs. More investors are entering the gold markets trying to hedge against rising inflation while the traditional gold jewelry markets are on the decline.

In India, gold increased to a record high of about $497 per 10 grams following a global surge. This has triggered purchases from investors looking to protect themselves against rising inflation while scaring traditional consumers away from the markets.

In New Delhi’s jewelry market of Karol Bagh, the shopkeepers are worried about losing their long-time customers whose numbers have dwindled following a prolonged increase in the price of gold.

[Rakesh Saraf, Gold Society of Delhi]:
“There are more investors in the market and they are buying bullion bars and less of jewelry sale is there. Only a compulsive (compulsory) buying is there in the market where there is a marriage in the family and you have to buy.”

India is the world’s largest consumer of gold, and for centuries, gold has held an allure for Indian women.

It also forms an integral part of an Indian wedding where parents of the bride give their daughter gold jewelry as her dowry and a means of financial security.

But the high prices at the moment are worrying some traditional consumers.

[Swati Malhotra, Jewelry Buyer]:
“They are increasing so high I was thinking that when my son will grow up how will I manage his marriage? So I am investing right now for him.”

[Monica Suri, Jewelry Buyer]:
“Right now we are postponing that our budget is not so much that we can buy right now, let us see.”

Gold traditionally benefits from a weak dollar, times of political and economic uncertainty, and periods of rising inflation. Prices have doubled since the lows of 2008.

Canada silver dollar 1958

August 19th, 2012 No comments

A quick look at a 1958 commemorative Canadian dollar coin.
Purchased from ebay for less than the spot price of silver including the delivery cost, so not too bad at all. I like the design of this coin and it has a nice feel to it when in hand, not sure why…, but a nice coin anyway.
This has a silver content of 80%.
The coin depicts a totem pole type statue on the reverse and has Queen Elizabeth II on the other side.

I want to start selling on Ebay anybody has some good tips for a beginner?

June 29th, 2012 5 comments

would want advice from someone with Ebay selling experience…thanks

I sold items for a year on ebay after closing a retail shop I owned for 3 years. I then ended up selling items for others.

Here’s my advice….in short anyways since I’m pressed for time.

Run 7 day auctions…starting around 7 pm Eastern Sunday to Sunday.

Start bidding at 99 cents!

Flat rate shipping via Priority Mail (use flat rate boxes or other….and always tack on a dollar or more for handling fee…which most buyers expect…to cover cost of packaging materials beyond the free boxes you can get at usps.com)

Keep your description to the point and don’t ramble on and on. I used the same format for all items I sold and just filled in the blanks.

Make sure your photos are of the best quality. Photos sell.

Let me know if you have other questions. (advtglady2005@yahoo.com)

How does selling your house at auction work?

June 26th, 2012 1 comment

Hi. I am considering putting my ground floor two bedroom flat up for auction. I want a quick sale because I have seen a house I like. I am very lucky as I don’t need to make money on my flat as I have savings. I just interested to know how auction selling works.

Contact a local real estate auction company and ask them. You can put a reserve price on it, so it doesn’t end up selling for a dollar. Most auction companies will work with real estate agents representing buyers, and you will want to know how they will market the house prior to the auction. There will be set times for buyers to view the house before the auction. Please understand that most people buying are not going to be interested in an auction, and those who are, are looking to get it at a rock-bottom price. You may get a quicker sale with more money if you just list it with a real estate office at a relatively enticing price.

How can I get a lot of money fast?

Yard sales too slow, ebay and craigs list failing, lost job, huge debts.

Try G2Bay. This is a social networking site where people help each other make and save money. People post their photos, blogs, news, product and service reviews and talk about the stocks they own. Every user gets a Million Dollar Page where advertisers pay to find the right customers. The more hits you get on your page, the more money advertisers will give you.
