how do I get more customers to buy my products?

December 2nd, 2012 Leave a comment Go to comments

run an online shop. very slow at the moment, I have done lots of advertising and networking. so why aren’t people purchasing.

You need to sell things that people want, usually with brand names!

Here’s a link to a list of wholesalers that sell high street and designer clothing for as little as £1.50. I buy from them and I actually make loads because I bought them so cheap I can actually afford to sell them much cheaper to customers so I’m making loads more sales!

what is unique about your products
how do you compare on price to your competitors
is your product a luxury or a necessity

Remember,we are in a recession, so you really need to look to your competitors to see what they are doing, and just try and undercut them, and offer a great shopping experience

I don’t think there’s a great market for Nappy Cakes. It’s a bit of a niche product. Maybe you need to change you website/company name to reflect that you sell more than just nappy cakes. I also found your prices and your postage costs prohibitive.

You could try signing up with an affiliate network so your site gets more widely advertised.

    Good luck.

Barring the obvious downturn in almost every sector of the market, it is difficult to give you an honest answer to your question without knowing more detail on what you are selling, your web user interface, design, and competitors in the market place.

Generalizing and from experience, some products are not suited to be sold online and have difficulty in taking off. Unless customers are familiar with what they are buying, certain bespoke/tailored items have a tendency to fail. As for products that sell well – consumer electronics and computer hardware/software for example, it is very much differentiated on price and speedy delivery, so it is difficult to be competitive with established shops with bigger purchasing power and turnovers. Not impossible, just difficult.

There is no magic answer, but successful online enterprises share certain similarities. If you have a good number of visits per day, but nobody willing to make a purchase:

    1. Trust.
Does your website look trustworthy and professional?

    2. User Interface.
Is it easy for customers to navigate to make a purchase? Does it conform to, for example, Schneiderman’s golden rules of user interface design?

    3. Products
Are your products easily identifiable online, or do customers need to see/touch/wear it in order to complete their purchasing process?

You have done well to advertise and network your website. Keep at it. I am sure others can recommend many ways to get your website noticed, improve your search engine rankings, and even perhaps joining a commercial webring of complementary shops to boost those all essential visits to your enterprise, but consider these 3 points first before spending funds and resources on people who promise to make your website more noticeable.
