During my time as an eBay ® consultant , people have asked me many questions. Often, people ask questions that are contrary to the success of their business, and it’s my job to redirect their thoughts in a more appropriate direction.

Consider the following question: “I have all of my items listed and I’m not getting as many bids as I’d expected, should I lower my pricing?”

I cringe when I hear this question, yet I understand why people ask it. It’s logical that, if something isn’t selling, it must be too expensive, right? Wrong!

There are several answers to this question, none of which are to lower the price. Today, I’m going to address a key factor that anyone can implement to increase their sales––a call to action in their item description.

What is a call to action?

A call to action is a very simple word or phrase that tells your “browser” what they should do next. This may seem obvious, but one of the biggest mistakes you can make as an eBay seller is to sit back and “hope” that your browser will become a buyer.

It is important to put aside your need to be subtle in your ads. Instead, come right out and tell your potential customer what they should do next. You can use words or phrases such as the following:

*Bid Now and Save Money

*Bid Now, Don’t Miss Out on This Incredible Deal

*Buy Now, Before the Price Gets Too High

*Bid Now, Quantities Are Limited and Moving Fast

*This Is a Hard-to-Find Item, Bid While It’s Still Here

You get the idea. Your product may have a special element, which will make this part easy. But, even if your product isn’t unique, you can still come up with an effective call to action.

Increase your sales immediately.

Using a call to action is not something new and it is more than just an idea. This method of selling has been repeatedly tested over time. Experts report that you will increase your sales by 80% simply by telling your browsers what to do next.

Bonus Tip.

Remember, you also have the option of giving potential customers more than one call to action. For example, assume that you have an eBay ® business selling collectible trains and you get a visitor who is looking for one particular item. This browser comes to one of your listings and sees that it isn’t the one they’re seeking. Because your “buy now” call to action might not work here, you’ve lost this person as a customer, right? Wrong again.

You have two things you can do at this point. The first is pretty well known and practiced, which is to direct the potential customer to a complete list of related items. Provide a call to action, such as, “If this item isn’t what you’re looking for, please click here (link to your entire list of auctions on eBay ® ) to see all of my train-related listings.”

The second, and my favorite, is to invite potential customers to sign up for free information. Provide a call to action, such as, Click Here

to visit my About Me page and discover how to receive free, weekly tips about buying collectible trains on eBay without getting scammed.” Collecting names of those who are in the market for your type of product is absolutely priceless.

I am beyond in debt my credit score is 441 I do not want to use one of those check cashing places. is there any company out there that would give me a loan? The credit cards I have now, I pay on time but I think the damage is done.

With a credit score of 441, NO ONE is going to loan you any money (save a loan shark)

but not to worry it just means that you have to either earn more or spend less…..

If you cannot get another job or have a garage sale or sell things on ebay
you can cut your expenses…..get rid of cable or at least all of the pay channels

turn down the water heater settings
wear more clothing to bed so that you can have the house cooler in the winter
make a list for the grocery store and buy food for the week
take your lunch to work
on the weekends, entertain at your house
rent movies from the library
read the paper and find a few free or cost things to entertain you on the weekends

Give blood (plasma) by finding the donation place in your phone book….most of the winos and school kids go there so plan the hour accordingly…. if you go once per week you can make $150 a month and you can use that entire amount to pay down your debt….

Decline ALL wedding invitations unless it is immediate family
for birthdays, give the gift of your time (spend the day with the person, make dinner, run errands etc)
Dont be embarrassed to tell your loved ones what is going on so that they can help. Most have been there (with a tight budget) and will help you stay on track by finding lower cost alternatives for fun…
But most importantly, figure out how you got into this mess….
did you spend money that you did not have thinking you would pay it back later, did you try to impress a girl, do you impluse shop? until you figure out honestly how you got there, you will repeat this situation again

i do have an extremely well paid job ,i was actually thinking of setting up my two neices and my nephew with ebay accounts stock and a little capital.

I have shop on ebay – I have to say that it is extremely hard work – your sales are based on good photos, obviously positive feedback and clever listing. I also work full time so often, it feels like I have two jobs. I have noticed a decline in business over the past few months – probably due to the credit crunch. That said, last year I earn’t more from Ebay than I did from my job however, the fees can be quite high when you start selling in any volume. The key is to research whatever you want to sell to check out the competition – also look at the completed items to see what they are actually selling for. Ebay has tightened up the rules lately which means that there is less room for rip off merchants – which is only a good think. Unfortunately, ebay has a slight stigma to it which can limit what you can sell an item for. I offer a 7 day return policy which I have found gives people confidence to buy. I have only ever given one refund and so, it does seem to work. Start off small to test the water and work up from there. I have had a shop on Ebay for around three years. I am now setting up my own website.

I am hoping to start an eBay seller account, I have a job that gives me a lot of free time and I recently sold some things through kijiji and made some good money fairly quickly. Now I would like to get into finding merchandise and selling it on ebay for a profit… I am not asking for everyone to tell me their business secrets they worked hard to learn but I would like some advice for starting off. Try not to sell something dozens of other people are selling, because you’ll either never make a sale, or you’ll have to lower prices so much that you only break even (or even lose money). If you’re selling multiple related items, offer combined shipping discounts. People will be more inclined to buy more than one thing if shipping is cheaper.

The Statistics

Through my experience with a wonderful site called Triond, I have concluded that the average amount of cents per view is 0.1. However, certain sites get less cents per view than others, and Authspot, one of Triond’s many publishing sites, is one of them.

The Formulas

As I just mentioned, the average amount of cents per view is 0.1, so if you wrote 10 articles a day for 5 years, and they got an average of one view a day, you would be getting an average of $182.50 a day.

If you write something quick, like Haikus, (which take about a minute for me to publish) and spend about 4 hours a day on publishing, and they get an average of one view a day, you would be getting an average of $182.50 a day in about 75 days.

How to increase cash flow

Promote, promote, promote! Bookmark, bookmark, bookmark! You can promote by answering questions online with your content, commenting on others content (being active in the Triond community is good), Facebook, etc. If you promote by word of mouth, I suggest making an easy-to-remember, free, Dot TK link. For example, if your Triond user name is Example, you can promote your profile by making the link Example.tk. Same for promoting a certain article or your referral link. If you want to make a Dot TK though, you would probably want to be making your user name unique. You can use bookmarks such as Digg, StumbleUpon, etc.

Please no sarcastic remarks like slow down, I have read them all. Just give me pure straight advice to try and get away with it.

There is a lot of assuming going on with many answers. Many states you can’t "take a class".

If you were pulled over via camera, you could easily go with the excuse that you have your car up for sale and the "test driver" must have gone too fast. You’d have to go to court to argue your case.

I would guess that you got pulled over. Three points probably means you were speeding over 10, maybe over 20. This is what you can do: Go to court on the day of your arraignment (that is the first time you appear). The DA’s will bring everyone forward one by one and try to avoid a court case by making many plea agreements. If you can afford to bump your ticket down to a lesser-point offense, you could easily say to the individual, "I was speeding, but not by 20 miles an hour. It was 10 according to my spedometer. I had cruise control set." Many times they will drop the charge down a bit just to avoid the added time they usually don’t have to see all these cases and burden the police officer with having to appear (taking him off the streets doing his job and putting him in court and still paying him).

If the fine is due by April 30th, you can go in there and say you’ve lost your job and are looking for one and don’t have any income or some other thing stating "I can’t pay this whole fine at this time" and they will spread out the payments. You can even appear before they are due to request more time… as long as you pay a few bucks here and there, they usually grant the time.

The worse thing about getting a ticket is getting screwed by your insurance company as, usually, you were speeding. Paying a speeding fine sucks, but paying an insurance company more for your mistake is complete BS. There is no context only the thought that "speed kills’ while driving too close is widely ignored and definitely causes many serious accidents.

If you were going 10 MPH over, you could purchase a used speedometer from eBay (if reasonable) or simply a cheap spedometer cable and bring the receipt to court and say your spedometer was broken. Usually you’ll wind up paying the fine, but the charge will be changed from "speeding" to "equipment inoperative". Same cost, no points, no insurance screw-over. I think most court houses don’t care as the insurance company typically doesn’t lobby every local government in the area…only state & federal levels!

Good luck. I’ve learned to ALWAYS go to that first appearance because they’ll often allow you to plead down. Sometimes they will even remove a charge if you say "I’m guilty of speeding, but not the turn signal violation." And you can even bring in proof of insurance that is faked in many states and they’ll fall for that. Luckily, I live in a state where proof of insurance isn’t needed and, oddly enough, insurance rates are cheaper.

The first answer is way off ,SMC items are all crap and you can find them by the millions for sale on Ebay at every price. Even SMC sells under another name on Ebay.

To answer your question, my sales technique is short, factual, and if your product is higher in cost then the competitors then explain why.

As far as a risk I have taken I have always been my own boss but the employees that came up with a new technique or cost saving solution were the ones that excelled. Don’t be afraid to offer a suggestion ever all that can happen is they say no. You will not be fired for trying to help.

I’m new to selling on Ebay. I’ve always had luck on Amazon, but they take a big cut of what you earn. There are up sells that are suppose to help you sell your item on Ebay, like "bold" "highlight" "enlarge display image" etc. Which ones really work and help? Am I limiting myself by selling only in the US, it just seems less complicated. I’m not selling all the time for business, just once and awhile, like my older cell phones, or camara’s. Is there anything that I can put in the details box to help sell my item or sound more professional or convincing? I’m actually looking into doing this as a job somday. Please help!

I have been selling on eBay for almost a year now and I can say that I rarely put any of the bold or highlight on my listings. I also do not take PayPal, but if you made your account at eBay after the second week of January then you would have to take PayPal. I have never sold anything out of the US, I think there is too much risk. Just make sure you make accurate and detailed listings. Be descriptive!! Good Luck!

I am in college, and my job has become very slow. So I am looking for ways to supplement my lost income. I know a lot of people use E-bay. My cousin goes to junkyards and buys parts and lists them, but I am not mechanically inclined so that is out of the question. What are ways a rookie like me could earn a few hundred bucks a week through E-bay?

My friend buys clothes and womens products from this website ( It sales everything ) The suppliers are from china & elsewhere i believe.
She buys cheap & sales high. & She makes a good income. I wish i could tell you the website. But do some research. Good luck.
