How to become an eBay business?

February 3rd, 2013 3 comments

Hi, I am a private seller at the minute but I love selling on eBay and am wondering the necessary steps to becoming an eBay business? I.e. with a business account. I am unsure of each step I must take such as registering as a business, tax and VAT, selling fees differences. I am asking this question also as I want to do everything properly and legally so I don’t break any eBay rules or UK laws on becoming a business through eBay!

Sounds good,Because you want to make your business in a legal way.Determine if you are required to pay taxes from your sales on eBay. Subtract any allowable deductions and calculate your adjusted net income by following the form’s instructions. If the calculated amount is positive, you owe taxes from your sales on eBay.Pay your taxes from your sales on eBay in one of three ways: by mail, by phone or online.
To pay by mail, write a check or obtain a money order for the amount you owe, made out to "United States Treasury." Send the check or money order, along with your complete tax return form, to the appropriate IRS office in your state. To pay by phone, contact the IRS at (888) 729-1040 after filing your tax return. You can use the automated system to pay by credit card or debit card. To pay taxes from sales on eBay online, visit the IRS website after filing your return and use your credit card, debt card or bank account.
But i also give you some important tips-
If you sold only your own used items that you no longer wanted, you likely do not need to report these sales. Unless you made a significant profit–i.e., you purchased an antique clock for $25, decided you no longer wanted it, and then sold it on eBay for $3,500–this is not counted as income. Think of it this way: if you were selling items on eBay the way you would sell your old belongings at a yard sale, you are not required to pay taxes from sales on eBay. If you are buying and selling items on eBay with the intention of turning a profit or earning income, however, you will need to report your earnings and pay taxes. You also can try izzonet for successful eBay selling tips.

How do i put a reserve price on an ebay item?

December 8th, 2012 3 comments

I want to sell an Wallabies Jersey on eBay with a reserve price of $20,000 but i dont want people to see that the reserve is this much. Is there any way i can do this?

Bidders will see that there is reserve pricem but will never see what that price is. Sometimes you will get an email from a potential buyer asking what the reserve price is. It is completely up to you if you want to reveal that info. I have been in this situation both as a buyer and seller.

As you are making your way through listing your item for sale, you will get to the pricing details about 2/3 of the way down the first page. You will be asked about what opening bid you want to set, whether you want to use Buy It Now or an open auction, etc.

Where you are asked set the opening bid, you will see an option to type in your Reserve Price. Just type $20,000 in that box.

I have never sold anything so expensive (unfortunately). Please have a great photo and item description with all info that applies, eg, brand new, excellent condition, etc.

It might be easier to follow the link that the other answerer gave you:

would stories like this put websites like ebay in danger of shutting down?

October 24th, 2012 2 comments

im in the uk, when i have the money, which is rare, i find ebay useful for buying rare things, but i just read this story before in yahoo uk news;

eBay ‘owes £51m in taxes’ to UK

eBay pays £1.2m in British taxes on sales of £800m: report

http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/ebay-pays-1-2m-british-174322345.html

so it caused me to be worried would stories like this put sites like ebay in danger of shutting down?

i dont understand the story very well so this is why i feared that, so if anyone can reassure or explain it better to me ?
doctor

what ? do you mind retyping in english, none of that made any sense.

Be very careful when buying "rare" things from eBay. They are often not what they seem and it is so easy to lose your money to a fraudster.

As far as the tax thing goes, no, they aren’t in danger of closing down.

What it means is that they’ve made use of tax loopholes to save themselves a load of money.

They say they haven’t done anything wrong so presumably they haven’t, but if they played fair and paid up like the rest of us they would have contributed a whole lot more money to the treasury purse.

Instead of that, because they are savvy and have smart accountants and tax advisers, they have found ways to hold onto almost everything they "earned".

Ebay listings…how to make them look professional? like web pages…?

June 16th, 2012 1 comment

hi everyone

I’ve got my own little business running, here’s my website:
http://www.pcgettafix.co.uk/

and business is slow these days, one of my strong points is selling gaming base units for approximately half the price everyone else does, my thinking is making small profits quickly rather than a possible big profit once in a while… so i want to get a couple of sales done on ebay, which will hopefully spark my business around…
thing is, i don’t know how to list my stuff looking really good and professional. for example, i’ve taken a link at random off ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-GeForce-9800GT-512-3-1-Dual-Core-Gaming-Computer_W0QQitemZ260414080553QQcmdZViewItemQQptZDesktop_PCs?hash=item3ca1e38629&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177

now how do i got about making that? i have designed a table form template on dreamweaver, but from my experience u can’t just copy the html and paste it into the ebay listing….as the images won’t show up, does that mean…like..for every image i have to upload to photpbucket and leave the html code to each image in their respective "box" in the table form that i copy to ebay?? seems like a lot of effort..is there any other way? or like…another way i can get it to look like that listing??

please guys, any help with any detail would be great:)..and if you’re after a great gaming base unit for dirt cheap then have a look on my site, specify what you want and i or one of my team will get back to you, see the "contact us" page.

thanks! 🙂

Usually this would be eBay templates, and use of HTML to style it.
You can build your own from HTML, or there are a few free eBay template designers. I don’t use them so I can’t recommend one.

For multiple pictures you can either uploaded them to eBay when you create the listing (there’s a fee for each image after the first) or set up your own hosting e.g. Photobucket and link to them from there, which does require a full URL.

If you have an eBay store you can add items and content from the store (like the menu) to your listings automatically.

Auctiva.com can create slideshows and similar to add to your listings.

best way to promote an ebay store?

I sell on ebay from the uk and am a powerseller with 100% feedback, but sales seem to be slow. I sell womens dresses and tops, i was selling stuff like the top-shop items months before topshop even decided to sell them, any ideas on other fashions that are hot at the moment?

Apparently we’re in for a very hot summer, something thin and lite with a flair and style Chifon Cotton, Cool and Comfortable. Swimwear, for the increased numbers of swimmers, who might need a sense of style in the area of size and loud colours.
