How much would you sale a crocheted Blanket that you made for?

February 3rd, 2013 10 comments

I make crochet blankets and i don’t knon how much money to sale them for.

On pricing, figure 3 times the cost of materials. If it’s an original design, go 3 times materials and then double it. If you sell out, then double it again!

Do lots of research and find out what others are charging, and whether anyone is selling any.

Know your customers. For instance, every new mom needs a few for baby, and they should be unusual and trendy – but the buyer is actually the family and friends who will be presenting them to her at a baby shower.

Different people have different decorating needs, so try to be up on what people are using to accessorize beds, sofas et cetera – and how to reach them..

Above all, don’t try to sell other peoples’ designs or patterns. Don’t pass off a kit as your own design. You’ll be shut down in two minutes.

Some places to sell might be a website of your own, Ebay, craft fairs, and consignment shops. If you have a day job, ask if you can put photos up on a bulletin board.

What are some good alternatives to Ebay?

I have some vintage, punk and alternative styles of clothing and shoes to sell. None of it is handmade so Etsy is not an option. I have had it with Ebay and their fee hikes and screwy policies and would like to know of some other viable online options for selling platforms.
If I wanted to simply get rid of things, I could put them outside and let the neighbors have at it, but I’m trying to raise a little cash here. I am interested in online options only, thanks.

I had some luck selling a few newer items on a regional newsgroup on Vampirefreaks. But I personally prefer selling via consignment at bricks and mortar stores for the vintage pieces. One of the consignment shops I work with sells almost exclusively vintage clothing. I rotate out 50 pieces every six months and she normally sells about 4-5 pieces a month for me, with a 50/50 split on each sale. The downside is that I have to wait for the monthly payout and sales have been slower lately. The upside is I don’t have to spend time writing extensive descriptions, taking photos, and getting hit with fees even if something doesn’t sell.

Ebay has definitely gotten more annoying lately. I’m not a big fan of how they’ve restructured leaving feedback. I’d prefer to know about non-paying bidders.

Ebay Sales & Pickups for the Week of August 21-27, 2011

January 8th, 2012 18 comments

My Ebay sales and garage sale/thrift store pickups for the week of August 21-27, 2011. Very, very slow week of sales with back-to-school, end-of-summer, and Hurricane Irene on the East Coast. I’m not risking running auctions until after Labor Day, so for now I am just trying to stock my Ebay Store.
