When selling on ebay, do you have to have a paypal account?
I want to start selling on Ebay but it looks like its requiring me to have a PayPal Account. I tried to make an account, but it asked for a routing number off a check of mine. I don’t ever use checks and don’t have any. Also, how does selling an item on Ebay work?
Does the money go directly into my checkings account after I ship it or right when they purchase it?
Someone qualified please explain all this.
Please, read the tutorials on ebay and paypal and understand how they work before attempting to use either site. Paypal is required for sellers in the U.S. You don’t have to have a checking account to open a paypal account, so you are looking at something wrong when attempting to open an account – for assistance call paypal at 1-888-221-1161 and they can walk you through it. The funds do not go into any account automatically when you are paid via paypal, you must go into your paypal account and manually transfer the funds once they are in the account. As I said, please read the info and call both sites if you must for clarification on any issues.
Ebay has certain requirements for payment options. You can review them here:

Paypal is one of the most common, and the easiest to use. If you use paypal, you can sign up using a credit card, debit card, or bank account. The money is transferred electronically to your paypal account, where it is held for you. You can either request a check, get a paypal debit card, use the money online on any site that accepts paypal – or have the money transferred to your bank account if you have one linked.
If you use other payment methods, you would need to research how they get the money to you.
To learn how to SELL on ebay, go to ebay, click the HELP link (top right), choose the "Learning Center" link there and start reading. They explain it all pretty well, step by step.

You do need paypal. Paypal is awesome because they protect your transactions, in cases of fraud or nonpayment, etc.
I used to sell a lot of stuff on ebay but lately they have been shady on how they charge sellers. Theyll let you list for free but take a commission off your sold item which is more than the listing fees. Its pretty shiesty. Buyers pay through paypal then it gets sent to your paypal account, at that point the money is yours and you need to ship the item. NEVER ship before receiving payment! Then you can withdrawal the money from paypal to be sent to your checking account, which usually takes 3-5 days.
If you don’t want to get a checking account, try selling on craigslist. Its free.

If you dont have a checking account you can use a debit card number or your credit card number to open a Paypal account. It is necessary because the buyer has to make payment to your Paypal account You can then transfer that to your bank or issue yourself a check from Paypal. Payments never go to your bank, they go to Paypal and stay there. You don’t ship anything until the payment has cleared.
