How safe is it to buy cars off ebay?

I never thought of buying a car off ebay. I was searching for a car part and then was scaning through cars for sale. What a deal! Problem is some of them almost sound too good to be true. I mean if the seller has 100% good feed back and they give history/details about the car and are willing to answer any questions, what can be the problem? Has anyone actually bought a car off ebay and were you happy with it? Can anyone give me tips on buying a car off ebay? Thanks!

You can get a good deal off of EBay, and you can have problems. Unless you are looking for a specialty vehicle, limit your choices to vehicles that are close enough to inspect prior to bidding. Go and look at the car that is being offered!!, If you are seriously interested in it, you may want to see if the seller will allow you to have your own mechanic check it out prior to bidding.

Do not expect a car to be perfect! The seller may try to describe the car well, but they (and pictures) can miss things. Ask a lot of questions and be sure you want the car before you bid!!!

Allow for the cost of getting the car home, and any inspections that may be required to register it!

Buying a car off ebay is really a gamble because although the seller does have a hundred percent feedback, you may still get shafted. The only reason i say this because once you buy the car you are in a contract and have to give the man his money, so even if the car is garbage, you still have to pay him whatever he asked for, and you wouldn’t really be able to get out of it unless you disputed it with paypal.

i havent bought a car on ebay, but i would. i buy tons of other stuff on there, from my car stereo, to my cell phone, to clothes, to makeup, etc…everything. Honestly, lots of people buy cars on ebay everyday. Ebay (and Paypal) offer you buyer protection if anything happens…you can get your money back. Its no easier to scam someone on Ebay than it is from buying it any other way. take advantage of the great deals you can get on ebay!

its probably safer to buy a car on ebay than just regular stuff….becuase if someone scams you when you are spending that much money, it becomes a federal offense….no one is gonna try to pull that crap.

I bought my 1998 CVPI on ebay. I got a great deal on a great car. But I was able to inspect it first.
Remember any used car comes with some risk. If you cannot live with this risk you should buy new.
