Any tips on selling a car on ebay please!?
I am considering putting my car on ebay as I am not having much luck with the autotrader in the current climate, but have never done it before!
Would you recommend it and what tips/secrets are there to get me a sale? The car is worth around £9000 if that’s any help.
Cheers.
I recently listed my brothers car on ebay for him, what it did for was provide a "shop window" whereby we got over 400 views of the car’s listing and a third more cash than the reserve! As the car was listed locally, practically everyone wanted to pay cash to end the auction which was how the car eventually sold.
Make sure you list all details about the car (except Reg No), honestly, as the person looking at your car will probably know any faults etc. to look for. If the car is good then it will sell itself.
Provide good pictures
Put a reserve on it, but DON’T disclose it no matter how much bidders hassle you.
Think twice about listing your phone number as no end of idiots will call simply asking for the same info that’s in the listing! and give you the line "I’ve got cash in my pocket & can be there tonight for £xx which is much lower than the actual book value…mostly traders.
Put in a disclaimer at the end of your listing stating that "if your reserve or more is met locally then you have the right to end the auction" to cover yourself if you need to cancel the auction early.
The one major downside is the fees, which are around 9% upon completion of sale.
We listed the car for 7 days, it sold on day 6 for cash outside of ebay, so only cost £12 fees for a national ad 🙂
hey am not a big fan of ebay but i would try and put it in ur local new paper and a poster in the nearist shop from u

Big photos, long description. A description of the CAR, not a description of what a great opportunty you’re giving them to buy such a rare and desirable car which everybody needs.
A lot of people describe the car in a way that is intended to be persuasive. I would never buy a car from somebody like that, or if I did, I would assume they’re dishonest and bid accordingly. That’s just the way I am. Other people may be more easily manipulated by that sort of thing.

Seriously? Don’t bother. Ebay has been going down hill very quickly the last yar or so and now there’s absolutely no incentive for people to turn up and buy your car despite winning the listing. Don’t believe me? Look at the amount of cars actually listed these days and the amount of bidders on eBay cars, it’s gone down a msaaive amount. ‘Winning’ bidders can now simply not even bother turning up and thn leave you bad feedback and eBay are encouraging this by their stupid new feedback rules. Their greed and love of scammers isn’t helping matters either and the chances of finding a buyer are probably less than one in three now.
Use Auto Trader first then local papers.

I wouldn’t sell a(nother) car on Ebay.
Loads of scammers
(can I pay by cheque and then take it to the ferry port immediately?)
loads of timewasters
can you drive it 100+ miles each way for me to look at it?

i have brought and sold cars and bikes on e bay and really have not had any problems. make sure you list the car honestly with as much info as possible and take plenty of snaps of both inside and out. list also with a disclaimer that anyone with less than ten feedback must contact you before bidding and you weed out most of the time wasters. shame that most of your answers are negative, not everyone in the world is dishonest. good luck.

Be very careful about this.
I wouldn’t do it personally because of the risk and the amount of money involved – you could get stung! But, if you did, I would insist that the payment would be a personal cheque or a bankers draft. I would specify that the buyer collect at his own expense and inconvenience, and only hand the keys over on the ‘clear’ ‘evidence’ that the cheque has been cleared and the money is in your account.
I suppose it’s only like selling a car in the local rag in some respects, but maybe to a wider audience. You also have to be careful to list all the good and bad things about the item for sale. If it’s not serviced, you must say so, if it’s got a slight scratch you must mention it, because the buyers can be very picky and give you bad feedback. Lots of photos help, as pictures say a thousand words.
Good luck, but be careful!
