I want to have an online business but I dont have anything to sell. what could I sell and where could I get it from.

There are two types of things you can sell online – tangible products and digital products. I’m certain that with your research over the Internet, you would by now be overwhelmed by the information thrown at you. In these circumstances, it can be confusing, and hard to make a decicion.

Nevertheless, I think you should approach this systematically. First, evaluate products from a demand perspective. You can only sell if there is adequate demand for a product. To do this, you can find out what people are searching for over the internet. One of the ways to do this is to use the Google Adwords Keyword Tool. Brainstorm on some of the items you are thinking of selling and find out if people are looking for them. These could be tangible products such as MP3 players, game consoles, or digital products such as downloadable software or money making ebooks.

For tangible products, you can also evaluate eBay or use the Marketplace research tool to find out what is in great demand. Of course, expect lots of competition for products with high demand. For you to break into the market, you need to be able to source products at very low cost. This would be your competitive advantage and is especially true for generic items such as electronic products.

On the other hand, you can also sell intangible products by being an affiliate. To do this, explore affiliate networks such as Clickbank.com or Commission Junction. Of course, you see long list of products there for sale, and not every product will make you money. In the end, you need to evaluate the statistics that these affiliate networks provide you, or even try out the products yourself to decide if something is worth your time promoting.

If you have skill and knowledge in a particular area (with demand) which you can provide expert advice on, you could start an online subscription service. You then sell your knowledge through ebooks, videos, newsletters or personal email advice on your subject matter.
