Buying from Ebay, does free shipping include handling fee and everything?

December 14th, 2012 Leave a comment Go to comments

Hi,

I’m new to ebay. There’s a pair of shoes I wanted to buy from a seller that is located in China and I’m in Canada. It says free shipping on the item’s page, does that mean that the price of the item is the only thing I have to pay, no more no less?
Is the handling fee also include in the "free shipping" statement?

Thanks!

According to eBay’s rules, when an eBay seller advertises ‘Free Shipping’ to a particular location they are *not* allowed to charge you any additional fees for things like shipping and handling. Of course, you should still carefully read an auction listing to make sure you completely understand the terms of the sale.

Here’s what eBay tell’s their sellers about offering Free Shipping:

Free shipping
You can offer free shipping to select or all destinations.

For a destination with free shipping, no other fees related to shipping, handling, or packaging can be charged.

You’re not allowed to change the shipping method to a slower option.

No, not necessarily. There may be a handling charge which should be on the listing. But be careful about these Free Shipping listings. Ask them what the shipping charge is in case they did it in error. Keep in mind that the item may end up much more than current price and they can afford to ship for free. Email the seller before you bid and try to get an answer about shipping cost, handling charge and anything else not apparent. They might be very shifty.

No, you are doing an import/export transaction.
The handling fee or duties and taxes have nothing to do with Ebay or that seller.
They are imposed by the governments of different countries.
Once your item reaches Canada, duties and taxes will be assessed and you will have to pay them in order to retrieve your item.
