Bought a car of eBay broke down less than a week later where do I stand?
The car was bought as a private sale off eBay and was described as a good runner. Obviously wasn’t as it has broken down on only it’s third outing!
If I have no rights there maybe another option. Before I bought the van it was taken in a p/x by a van trader. It was then sold to me through a private eBay account to avoid having to put warranty on it. I assume all this as I picked it up from a van traders yard. So if I can proove this will this give me some angle to go with?
Finally the van was still registered in the original owners name but they were in possesion with the Log book. If they wanted this sale treated as a private sale shouldn’t they have re-registered it with the guy who sold it to me? Was that against the law?
Where do you stand, outside the van while your hitchhiking back home, sorry, automobiles are sold two ways; some Warranty or As-Is. You bought an As-Is. Watch "Judge Judy" she will tell you "Buyer Beware".
I don’t understand your registration problems, but title in hand and a sales receipt is all you need, unless they said, (in writing), you have a warranty you do not.
Sorry, hope it is an easy fix.
You don’t. You walk. It’s legal!

If you can "prove" you bought the car from a trader, contact trading standards and seek their advice. If you can’t "prove" they are traders, you are wasting your time.

You may have been deliberately cheated, but you don’t state the reason for the car’s breakdown. If it is a minor fault, then possibly they didn’t know about it.Legally, you don’t have much to back your claim up because the person’s name on the log book is not necessarily the legal owner.Try your trading standards officer if you can prove that it was a trader who sold the car to you because that is an offence to sell privately when a trader.Report them to customs and excise and Inland revenue and take action against them through the "Small Claims Court"It will only cost you £50 to issue a summons.First of all contact the person whose name was on the logbook, because he should have filled the section in which says sold to a trader. If he is decent then he can give you a letter to that effect.

Nothing you mentioned matters at all. You made the choice to buy this van, you could have said NO, but you didn’t so it is yours now. Buying a used van is no different than buying a used toaster. If you get it home and it burns the bread you have nobody to blame but yourself.

You bought a car, then you tore it up. Whats so hard to understand about that ?
You stand with your car that you tore up. Fix it, sell it, give it away, whatever.
You’re an owner.
Even IF the guy that sold it to you knew it had problems, you cant prove it. And even if you could, I doubt a judge would do anything about it.
You don’t have a leg to stand on legally.
You can cry & whine or you can act like a grown up and realize it was your fault and/or your responsibility to check out what you buy before you buy it.

If the van vas sold as is, then it’s as is. If there was no warranty on it when it was listed on ebay, then there is no warranty. I don’t think you can do anything,

I know nothing about cars/warranty/logs/ownership etc… ; but you have better recourse if you purchased from a dealer
Go to CAB
If the seller on ebay is petending to be a private seller to avoid his obligations then if and when you take him to court the onus is on him to prove he is not a Business seller (nigh impossible if he sells anything on a regular basis-including cars)
He knows he sold you a dud Trading Standadrs may well be interested (and the tax man-if not a registered Business)
